Oak Ridge High School senior, Caroline Webb has been named the 2020 Oak Ridge School District Student Volunteer of the Year. This award is intended to recognize a student who is distinguished in academics, community service activities, and leadership roles. Caroline has distinguished herself academically as a 2020 double graduate, who will receive both her high school diploma and an associate’s degree from Roane State Community College. Her cohort will be the first Roane State Middle College group graduating from Oak Ridge High School. Caroline will attend the University of Tennessee in the fall and hopes to study family law and immigration law.
Caroline’s community service activities and leadership roles include:
- Anchoring the Oak Ridge High School broadcast station WCAT morning news;
- Filming the Oak Ridge Schools Board of Education meetings at the request of instructor, Dave Kolodney;
- Filming, directing, and participating in “Focus on Education” segments for the school board;
- Fundraising for the Ronald McDonald House;
- Helping with special events of the Boys and Girls Club of Oak Ridge;
- Participating in outreach activities with First United Methodist Church;
- Serving as a member of the Youth Advisory Board at the Oak Ridge Civic Center;
- Filming and editing videos for non-profit organizations in the community to use for grant applications; and
- Serving with a local drug overdose prevention program.
