Each year, a textbook adoption takes place in based on a state-approved cycle. Textbook committees are composed of teachers and parents. Each committee member takes an oath that they do not have any financial interest in any publisher. The committees base their reviews on the state of Tennessee’s approved adoption list. Committee members consider the state advisory panelists’ reviews, and also work together to conduct their own reviews of the materials based on the state-provided rubrics. Committee members come to common agreements on textbook selection by grade band and by content area. In most cases, teachers select a blend of print and digital resources.
