Clinton 12 Commemorative Walk – Join LIVE in person or on WCAT TV
The public is invited to the Clinton 12 Commemorative Walk on Monday, August 26, 2019 at 10 a.m. The purpose of the Clinton 12 Commemorative Walk is to honor the twelve high school students who braved threats of violence to attend Clinton High School, to recognize a community and its leaders that came together to rectify an injustice, and to educate the future generations of the struggles of the past in order to encourage a culture of acceptance and celebration of our differences.
Students from Clinton Middle School and Clinton Elementary School will line the streets while the Clinton 12 and dignitaries walk down from Green McAdoo Cultural Center, (formerly Green McAdoo School) to Clinton Middle School, (formerly Clinton High School).
Following the walk, there will be a program in the CMS gymnasium where the Clinton 12 will be recognized and a proclamation will be presented from the State of Tennessee. A joint proclamation will be presented by Anderson County Commission, the City of Clinton and the City of Oak Ridge.
Honored Guest will include the remaining eight members of the Clinton 12, family representatives of the four deceased members, U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander, U. S. Representative Chuck Fleischmann, and Tennessee Lt, Governor Randy McNally.
