Altrusa Partnership
Altrusa International of Oak Ridge and the Oak Ridge Schools Preschool Program became Partners In Education in November 2003. Altrusa believes that partnering with the Preschool fits well with Altrusa’s goals of improving literacy and providing service to the community.
Through the partnership, the Altrusa of Oak Ridge Foundation has presented an annual grant so that teachers may purchase books to give to each student during home visits, encouraging early childhood literacy. Altrusans volunteer at the Preschool, provide gifts to a Preschool Angel Tree family or families during the holidays, treat the staff to a meal during Staff Appreciation Week, support Week of the Young Child events and serve on the Community Pre-K Advisory Council, as a result of the partnership.
The Preschool hosts a regular Altrusa meeting and presents a program every other year at the Preschool building. Preschoolers have made Valentine treats for Altrusans, and the Preschool students and staff always give Altrusans a warm welcome whenever they visit and volunteer.
