Somehow midterms are here! Midterms are a "snapshot" report. They are a great opportunity for you to talk about grades with students.
Remember that Election day is on TUESDAY and there will be no students or staff on campus. Classes will resume on Wednesday. The fall season is definitely here, with cool mornings and warm afternoons. Midterms are coming on Thursday, November 14th. We will send a parent square message alerting you.
School is still in session, and we wanted to remind parents and students about our norms and expectations. Students cannot wear costumes to school, nor bring face or hair paint to school. In general, clothing should not distract from the learning environment and follow the regular school dress code found in the ORS Code of Conduct.
Teachers have been working with your students this past week talking about their Benchmark data. Student ownership of their learning is key to the transformation of a student from good academics to great. Setting personal goals and helping students understand what they can be working on engages their brains more effectively as they learn.
Term 2 is always a fast term. Between Election Day, Thanksgiving, and the several field trips we have scheduled, students will look up and realize Term 2 is over. Report cards for Term 1 will go out this week, so be sure to discuss with your student.
In this final week benchmarks start on Monday! These benchmarks are formative exams which help teachers plan for instruction in the second term and helps students take ownership of their own learning as we progress through the year. They are very important, and kids and staff take them seriously. However, students should NOT stress about them.
Between our in-building activities, our after-school sports and clubs, and their own busy lives, it can be easy to accidently overlook the academics as we near the end. Be sure to have a conversation with your student about their academic progress.
We hope that everyone has a great upcoming week! There are many things going on, so check out Week calendar. Spirit Week is in TWO Weeks. Benchmarks start the week after, and after that is FALL Break. This term is running full speed ahead. Be sure to talk to your students about their academic progress and about their grades.
Look at our calendar below and you will see many great things happening at JMS. It is one of the reasons we choose the Ferris Wheel for the background this week. We keep rolling here at Jefferson.
If midterm grades are NOT where you want them to be, speak to your student and reach out by email to your student's teacher. If your student is not quite behaving as you and JMS would like, review the student code of conduct and our JMS expectation presentation below.
