5th Graders from the Blue Team Participated in a  Summary Writing Competition

This quarter, students on the 5th grade Blue Team practiced writing a summary each week. We concentrated on listening to a presentation, taking accurate notes, and organizing those notes into a clear and thorough essay. The culmination of that effort was a writing competition, The Summary Games. Finalists for the competition were Ben Bivens, Sophia Hughes, Gabriela Jacobs, Isaac Robinson, Sarah Hudak, Emma Cagley, Norah Younger, and Ben Dallas. The judges for the competition were Mr. Sprouse’s 8th grade students Abigail Hausladen, Lynley Baldwin, M. Kendall, and Madelyn Kittrell. After an impressive effort by the writers, and careful deliberation by the judges, the winner was chosen. The second place essay was written by Isaac Robinson, and the first place, overall winner of The Summary Games was Ben Dallas.

We would like to thank the 8th grade judges for their participation and for meeting with the finalists afterwards to offer their insight, compliments, and encouragement. Also, thank you to the Jefferson PTO for providing Books-A-Million gift cards to the finalists. All finalists received a $5 gift card. Isaac received $10, and Ben, The Summary Games champion, received a $15 gift card. Writers and judges alike represented the school nicely.
