PROM ATTIRE
As the excitement for the upcoming Prom builds, we would like to remind all attendees of the dress code in place to ensure a formal and elegant atmosphere for this special occasion.
In an effort to maintain the formality of the event, we kindly request that no jeans be worn to the Prom. Instead, we ask that gentlemen adhere to a minimum dress code of dress pants and a suit jacket. For ladies, we recommend dresses or professional attire. If you have specific questions or need clarification, please contact Shannon Eidam-Dyer at seidamdyer@ortn.edu
All Seniors are invited to come join us on May 1st in the Food Court at 2:15 for The Senior Tea hosted by the English Dept. and ORHS PTSO. Enjoy tea, light refreshments, and socializing. Dress as your favorite literary character or author to win door prizes!

There have been many phone calls and questions lately about ordering yearbooks. The order time has passed, and now yearbooks may only be purchased on Yearbook Distribution Day, May 14, for $85 cash only. Seniors will be called down to purchase or pickup first, then juniors, then sophomores, then freshmen. There will be 100 books on-hand that day to buy, and it will be first come, first serve with no books being reserved. If you have questions about whether or not you have ordered a book, please email Rebecca Hale at rahale@ortn.edu, and she will check the orders and reply within 24 hours.
Convocation is the assembly of the graduating class, their families and friends. It is a time to be together as a class before the festivities of graduation. Convocation will be held on the Wednesday prior to commencement at Oak Ridge High School at seven o’clock. Parents and other guests should be seated by this time. In order that the graduating class may be seen by all, the audience will remain seated during the processional and the recessional.
Attire
Seniors who choose to participate in the Convocation exercises must wear the traditional cap and gown. Only school-issued cords and stoles are permitted. The gown is to be worn over the appropriate apparel such as dresses, dress pants (long pants, not shorts), and button-up dress shirt, tie is optional. Dress shoes are also required. If you do not have the appropriate attire for graduation, please see Ms. Thompson prior to seniors last day for assistance. If a student is not dressed in appropriate attire, he or she will not participate in the Convocation exercises. In addition, students will not be allowed to participate in Convocation if they have decorated their mortar boards.
Oak Ridge High School Families,
Oak Ridge High School Graduation is scheduled for Friday, May 17, 2024 at 7 p.m., with gates opening at 6 p.m. at Blankenship Field. With inclement weather in the forecast, we have updated our contingency plan and communication process to ensure the safety and timely notification of our staff, families and the Oak Ridge Community.
The decision of whether to postpone the graduation ceremony will be made by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 17. That announcement will be made via text, phone call and email to all high school families through the district’s Skylert platform. The announcement will also be posted to the district’s social media pages, website and shared as an email announcement to local media outlets. This webpage will be updated with all the most recent updates regarding the 2023-24 graduation ceremony.
As always, should Friday’s graduation be cancelled due to weather, the ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 18, at 7 p.m. at Blankenship Field. Understanding that the current weather forecast for Saturday is not favorable, and to ensure an opportunity for as many loved ones and community members to attend as possible, we have added Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m. at Blankenship Field as an additional rain date for the graduation ceremony.
Oak Ridge Schools will make every effort to hold the ceremony outside, as moving to our indoor location at Wildcat Arena significantly reduces capacity and would require limited ticketing of attendees. With that said, should the ceremony be forced indoors, an announcement would be made following the same process listed above, no later than 7 a.m. Sunday, May 19. The indoor ceremony would take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, and tickets would be required. No tickets are required for outdoor ceremonies.
Graduation celebration will take place on Friday, May 17, rain or shine. Graduating seniors should report to the Oak Ridge Civic Center at 10 p.m. and board the buses to Main Event at 11:30.
The graduation ceremony will be live streamed on Wildcat TV – to view, visit www.ortn.edu/wcat.
