STUDENT INFO

STUDENTS –  How would you like to get in free to Tuesday’s basketball game against Karns?  ORHS is hosting Basketball & Books night for the February 4th home game.  Any student bringing a new or gently used children’s or young adult book will help provide books for elementary and middle school students in our area.  (Tu, Th, M) –  T. Seals

On Tuesday February 4, ORHS Student Council & Counseling Office is sponsoring Purple Night for the OR vs Karns game in order to raise awareness of teen domestic violence.  We are asking our students to wear purple as we highlight the importance of recognizing the signs of violence.  We would also like to invite your students to join us in this endeavor.  The YWCA will also be in the arena to share resources. (1/31, 2/3, 2/4) – T. Seals

African Americans and the Vote” is the theme for this year’s Black History Month, a celebration which began as Black History Week in 1926. The 15th Amendment, ratified in 1870, declared that all men had the right to vote, regardless of race. In 1920, women gained the right to vote when the 19th Amendment was ratified. However, black men and women were systematically barred from expressing this Constitutional right to vote by racially-motivated laws and policies. It wasn’t until 1965 when the Voting Rights Act was passed that people of color officially and explicitly had the right to vote. Even today, there’s a lot more to fair elections than a ballot box. Come by the library to learn more about the struggle for suffrage as we celebrate Black History Month 2020.  (2/3) – C. Milloway
