Spring Break 2019 in England, France, Belgium, and Germany! To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the continent in WWII, we are leading educational tour to Europe. Visit 4 countries as we trace the path of the allied forces across the English Channel to the D-Day beaches of France, on to the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, and finally into Germany and the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp. SENIOR INFO

 

Seniors: Ever wondered what you’d do if you had a flat and were stuck on the side of the road, out of cell service? Ever considered checking the oil and tire pressure but weren’t sure how? Ever wondered what to do to maintain your car so that your sweet ride stays sweet? Come to the Auto Tech room in G-Building on Thursday, August 30, from 3:30-5:00, and learn all this and more from ORHS’s Mr. Ladue. All ORHS seniors are welcome. Vandy Fan for a Day provides high school students with information about the selective college admissions process, insight into Vanderbilt’s excellent scholarship programs, and an opportunity to enjoy the excitement of game day as the Vanderbilt Commodores take on the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday, November 17th. Are you a rising sophomore or junior that feel you would benefit from a chance to participate in the Vandy Fan for a day program? CLUB INFO

 

The ORHS Math Club will meet this Friday after school in Mrs. Mullins room, CS231.  This week we will start looking at “Secrets of Mental Math”, by Arthur Benjamin and Michael Shermer.  Mental math is not just for mathletes.  There are speedy calculations that can be done by all math students with a little training.  If you would like to learn some tricks or share some secrets of your own, please join us.  Newcomers are always welcome, and refreshments will be served. Do you want to become a better listener? Be a better support to your friends? Then join us for a new club, Teens for Contact, Monday, 8/27 after school until around 4 in the college and career room.  This is a great way to improve your listening skills! (M) – A. King

 

Join Philosophy Club after school on Friday in Mr. Pickering’s room (LC322) for an introductory discussion on political philosophy. We will also nominate and elect club officers for the year. Everyone is welcome! (F) – A. Pickering

ATHLETICS THIS WEEK

 

Off-season tennis activities will begin this month. The Greater Knoxville Tennis Association High School League is back again for Fall 2018! Players compete one day a week against club team’s from Morristown, Gatlinburg, Powell, and Knoxville. Hard copies of consent forms can be picked up before/after school in Room LC-218 from Coach Bowman. There will be one match per week, two singles and two doubles. All players on the same team must compete in the same division – A, B, or C:

  • C- Beginner.Players new to tennis and/or needing match-play experience. Need to develop stroke development. May play on junior varsity team or low seed on varsity roster.
  • B- Intermediate.Players have some junior team tennis experience but little to no tournament experience. Still in need of match-play, advanced stroke development, consistency and strategy. Typically plays in top 6 of varsity roster in high school.
  • A- Advanced.Match tested and tournament players making deep runs in TSSAA state post-season play. Players are the top seeds on their roster. Players have mastered advanced strokes and are well versed in strategy.  (8/16, 8/20, 8/23) – D. Bowman
