Oak Ridge High School has been selected as one of the recipients of Volunteer Tennessee’s Award of Excellence for their commitment to service during the 2020-2021 school year. The selection committee was impressed with the outstanding work Alison King, Student Services Facilitator has been doing with staff and students in the areas of community service, service learning and volunteerism. They applied and reported that they had over 30,000 volunteer hours, even in the middle of the 2020-2021 pandemic school year. Alison stated, “The application considered our community service through clubs, service learning, mentoring, NJROTC, and sports teams. We also had an opportunity to list what our staff does in their free time to give back. We are excited about this opportunity to recognize the volunteer spirit Oak Ridge High School has.” Betty White, the Commissioner of the Volunteer Tennessee Board stated, “Volunteer Tennessee is proud to recognize you as a leader school for embedding community service and student responsibility within your curriculum.
