CLUB INFO

All Key Club members need to see Mr. Schoolcraft between now and Friday. Stop by between classes or during 5b. Member Dues are to be turned in by Monday, December 9. Dues are $14.(W,F,M) – J. Schoolcraft

Student Council is hosting a coffee house performance this Friday, December 6^th, in the St. Mary’s youth building from 6-8 pm. Come support your talented friends and eat delicious baked goods. Admission is $3 and baked goods & coffee are $1/each. (12/3-12/6) – A. Wagner

Have you ever dreamed of attending a prestigious school like MIT? Would you be interested in joining a group of other Oak Ridge High School students on a visit to the MIT campus? If you would be interested in planning a campus visit to MIT with other ORHS students during Spring Break 2020, please stop by the Counseling Office and sign up with Ms. Campbell. SENIOR INFO

Josten’s will located in the Main Lobby during lunch only tomorrow, December 5, to take orders for graduation supplies. Seniors who have not ordered should turn in their orders. After December 5, orders may be mailed to Jostens, phoned in, or ordered online. The final date to place an on-time order and avoid increased prices (double) for graduation supplies is Tuesday, December 10, 2019. (W) – T. Ledden

Seniors, quotes and memories are now available on Skyward to enter into this year’s yearbook. Simply check your Skyward messages to find a link to the google form where you can enter both. You must include your name to have your quote and memory featured, and please read all directions at the top of the form. The form will be open until Tuesday, December 10. Seniors – be sure and check out the long list of scholarships available on the Counseling Office website.  Go to the ORHS website, under Academics select School Counseling – scroll to the bottom of the page to click “Testing, Scholarship, College Summer Programs and Career Links”.  There’s a ton of information that is updated often with new opportunities and deadlines. The Oak Ridge Rotary Club Brad Sturm Memorial Essay Contest (Merit Based on Essay) and The Rotary Club of Oak Ridge College Founders Scholarship (Need and Merit Based) applications are now open.  Both scholarship applications can be completed online at the East Tennessee Foundation Website.  www.easttennesseefoundation.org/scholarships-grants/scholarships/how-to-apply

Both scholarships will require an in-person interview with a selection committee and award winners will be invited with their families to attend an awards presentation at the Rotary Club of Oak Ridge around graduation time in 2020.  Deadline for applications is February 15, 2020.  Award amounts have not yet been finalized, but should be similar to what was awarded last year (up to $6,600 for the College Founders Scholarship and up to $5,200 for the Brad Sturm Memorial Essay Contest).  We typically give out multiple awards for each scholarship, so scholarship amounts per person usually end up a little over 2k, with a minimum award of 1k.  Finally, the Brad Sturm Memorial Essay Contest requires a book to be purchased for the essay, so for those students unable to purchase the book off Amazon, two copies of this book will be available for check out in the counseling office. Mrs. Bauman’s economics class will also be provided two copies of the book.  We will be using the same book from last year…….A Capitalist Manifesto:  Understanding the Market Economy and Defending Liberty by Gary Wolfram.  (W – 11/20-12/20) – A.
