Oak Ridge High School Daily Bulletin

STUDENT INFO

NHS Tutoring: Grace Wilson and Anna Turner might triple jump and play softball, respectively,  in their spare time, but on Thursday, September 12, they’ll offer free tutoring in the Counseling Center from 3:15-3:50.  (Th) –  A. Etheridge

Jostens will take orders for class rings and graduation supplies in the Main Lobby and the Arena Concessions’ Kiosk on Tuesday, September 17, during lunch only. Mrs. Ledden does not accept orders. Please turn in your order to the Jostens representative at either location during 5th period. CLUB INFO

 

Every Wednesday, Masquers hosts an Actors Workshop.  This is for all ORHS students whether they are involved with Masquers or not.  The goal is to sharpen your skills for the upcoming auditions for THE LITTLE MERMAID in December.  The Workshop is every Wednesday from 2-3:30 in Ms. Ragan’s room.  The workshop is taught by a professional actor and director, Amy Uptgraft, a new member of the Masquers Community Team. (9/9-9/30, MT) – V. The Community Connections Club will be holding its first meeting on Monday, September 16. Anyone who is interested in volunteer work in our community is encouraged to attend. The meeting will be in Mrs. Haynes’ room, LC 104 at 3:15. (Th) – H. Haynes

 

We are still accepting new members into the Sewing Club. Stop by the Makerspace after school on Thursdays. Pick out a project, learn a new skill, and just enjoy keeping the art of fabric and thread crafts alive.  (Th)  NWitick

 

Math Club will meet Friday in Mrs. Mullins’ room, CS231.  This week’s math adventure is to work through an Interschool Exam…a math competition favorite that feels like a trivia contest with some extra math problems thrown in!  Everyone works on it together. COUNSELING INFO

 

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. announces is International High School Essay Contest. Four college scholarship awards will be awarded: 1st Scholarship: $5,000; 2nd Scholarship: $3,000; 3rd Scholarship: $2,000; 4th Scholarship: $1,000. All submissions will be reviewed by the local Chapter and submissions will not be accepted after October 18, 2019  Information on essay topic and submission requriements can be found on the Counseling Office Scholarship website. 21st CCLC is looking for students to serve as math tutors. If you are interested in working with Willow Brook students from 4-6 pm a couple days a week, please apply as a substitute for the Oak Ridge School district and meet with Tina Marascia at Willow Brook. Saturday, September 21st, Roane State (Oak Ridge campus) will be hosting an HBCU Expo from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Students from 7th-12th grades can attend along with parents/guardians.

Vandy Fan for a Day provides high school students with information about the selective college admissions process, insight into our financial aid and scholarship programs, and an opportunity to enjoy the excitement of game day as the Vanderbilt Commodores take on the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday, November 16.  To be eligible you must fall into at least one of the following categories: first-generation college student, participating in free or reduced lunch programs, or be a student for whom cost will be a primary consideration in their college choice.  If you would like to be considered for this opportunity, please submit a resume and personal statement to Ms. Redman in the School Counseling office by Friday, September 13. (9/9-9/13 T,Th) – A. DAVIDSON COLLEGE – announces the Lowell L. Bryan Scholarship for top senior Scholar Athletes who are strong performers in the classroom and impact players at the NCAA D-1 level in one of the 18 eligible sports.  This scholarship will provide two four-year scholarships – one for a woman and one for a man valued at $30,000 a year each.   If you would like to be one of three seniors nominated for the Bryan Scholarship by Oak Ridge High School, please submit a resume and personal statement to Ms. Redman in the School Counseling office by Wednesday, September 18.  (9/11-9/18 T/Th) – A. SENIOR INFO

 

SENIOR SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST:  Please submit your designs for the Class of 2020 Senior Shirt to Mrs. Ledden in Room CS347 by Wednesday, September 18. You do not have to be a senior to submit designs for the shirt—open to all grade levels.

We need a front design and a back design.  Each of these designs is a separate “contest”.  Prizes for each contest are as follows:  Front – $25; Back – $25.

Be sure to incorporate ORHS, Seniors, and Class of 2020 into your drawings.  Place your name and homeroom teacher’s name on the back of each design entry.  Entries must be original work and if selected, will become the property of Oak Ridge High School. (Selection committee reserves the right to combine two or more designs in which case each person will receive prize money.)  (9/3,5,9,12,16) T. Ledden

 

Seniors: if you did not receive your graduation supplies packet on Wednesday, September 11, please come to CS347 to pick up the packet. Every senior must have the official cap, gown, and tassel set to walk the stage at graduation. (F) – T. Ledden
