Oak Ridge High School Daily Bulletin

STUDENT INFO

Students taking AP exams:  please plan to attend one of the 4 mandatory pre-administration sessions next week to fill out all of the paperwork for your exams.  We will meet in the amphitheater next Wednesday, April 17th and Thursday, April 18th during lunch and after school. We will also be collecting payments on any outstanding balances.  (4/11-4/16) – A. The Oak Ridge Civic Ballet Association presents Swan Lake and Peter and the Wolf on Saturday, April 13th at 2:00 and 7:30 p.m.  The cost is $15/adults, $10/seniors, $5/students.  The Counseling Department has a very limited quantity of free tickets if you are interested in attending, see Ms. Wendt. 4th quarter stressing you out?  Take some time to de-stress, express your creativity, celebrate National Poetry Month and maybe win a gift card from the library.  All blackout poems are due by April 19 and will be judged by our Creative Writing students.  Come by the library for supplies and more details.  (Th) C. Before going on a college visit a prior approval form must be completed and turned into the attendance office. Upon return, you need to make sure you have proper documentation on letterhead from the college you attended. This documentation will then be attached to your prior approval form. (Tu, Th) – P. PROM INFO

 

If your date is not a current ORHS student you must complete a Guest Application form found in Student Services or with Ms. Eidam in LC 313.  All forms must be completed and turned in with a copy of the guest’s ID to Student Services by April 24th.

 

Promposal contest. Did you ask your date to prom in a creative way? Would you like to win a pair of tickets to Living Behind the Mask: a Met Gala?  Send pictures or video of your promposal with a short explanation of your proposal to Ms. Eidam at seidam@ortn.edu by April 16th.  The winner will receive a free pair of tickets to Prom 2019 or a refund if they had already pre-ordered their tickets. Junior and Senior Girls– are you in need of a prom dress?  The ORHS Prom Closet will be open during the following dates and times:  Lunch 5a & 5B  March 29, April 1, April 5, April 9 and April 11  /  After school until 3:45 April 4, April 8, April 9, April 11 & April 15!

CLUB INFO

ASAP Youth Ambassadors are having an informational meeting on Tuesday, April 16th after school in the College Room of the counseling office.  There will be Pizza and treats for those who attend and find out more about the program! (Th, M, Tu) – 4.16

 

The Youth Advisory Board is accepting applications for the next year.  The term of office begins on August 1st, 2019.  Participation on the City of Oak Ridge YAB requires attendance at bi-monthly meetings on Wednesday afternoons and also at special events throughout the year.  All interested students are encouraged to pick up an application in Student Services or at the Front Desk of the Civic Center.  Application requirements include being an Oak Ridge resident and a student that is entering 8th-12th grade.  Applications will be due by May 17, 2019 to the locations listed above.  For any further questions, please contact Matt Reedy at 425-3450. Paid Summer Internship Opportunity to Learn about Teaching – The University of Tennessee

Internship Highlights

  • When: June, 2019, from 8am – 1pm each weekday for four weeks
  • What: An internship to learn about STEM teaching. You will teach and learn under the guidance of mentor teachers and UT faculty.
  • Previous Experience: No experience necessary. An interest in teaching is expected.

COUNSELING INFO

 

Would you like to earn community service hours? Are you looking to gain experience in sports, hospitality, and guest relations? UT is recruiting student workers to work the Orange & White Game on 4/13 with the opportunity to continue into the upcoming football season. This is a great way for any students to earn volunteer hours, get paid, and learn some of the fun-filled game-day operations in the premium spaces of Neyland Stadium. Erin Fitch, the regional representative for Camp Invention in Tennessee has volunteer opportunity available for high school students needing service hours in the summer of 2019. They are running a program at St. Mary’s Catholic School and are in need of high school student volunteers. Kristin Barron is the camp director this year and is looking for any student interested in mentoring elementary aged students. Below are the program details.

 

Leadership Intern for Camp Invention:

Requirements:

  • Rising 10-12 graders (based on next school year)
  • Looking for students who would be great role models for elementary school aged students.

 

Benefits:

  • Students will receive 40 service hours
