Oak Ridge High School Daily Bulletin

STUDENT INFO

Intersession will be held October 1-4 from 8:00 to 3:30. Students may sign up for the morning session (8 to 11:30) or the afternoon session (12:00 to 3:30) or both. Lunch is available for purchase. Intersession applications are available in the main office and the counseling office. This fall we are offering an ACT prep class just in time for the senior ACT retake on October 30! ACT prep is available on a first come first served basis, and we will fill the a.m. session first. There will also be grade recovery for students who fail the first term to recover their grades. We encourage students to take this opportunity to get back on track for the year. (M-F) – B. Estep

Celebrate your right to read during Banned Books week! Guess which challenged, shredded book is on display in the library and be entered into a drawing to win a prize.  Hurry in, cause the winners will be announced at the end of the day on Friday, September 28.  While you’re here, check out the display of books that are on the American Library Association’s list of most challenged books.  How many of them have you read?  (F, M. The City Youth Advisory Board is collecting school supplies to support Luther Nick Jerolds Middle School in Fayetteville, NC.  A former City of Oak Ridge employee, Tracie Long, is a teacher in the flood-damaged community.  Donation boxes are available at the Oak Ridge Civic Center Front Desk and also at Oak Ridge High School (you might want to mention exactly where).  The blitz drive ends next Friday, September 28th.  All school supplies are welcome.  Please direct all questions to the Civic Center Front Desk at 425-3450.  (M,W,F) – M. Jostens will take orders again for class rings and graduation supplies in the Main Lobby and the Arena Concessions’ Kiosk today during lunch. (9/26) – T. Ledden

Today is the last day for upperclassmen who would like to take the ASVAB test on Friday to sign up in Student Services or Guidance.

The ASVAB will be starting at 8 am Friday 9/28 in the Amphitheatre.  Students will report directly to the Amphitheatre @ 7:50 am.   (9/26) – C. Wilson

 

SENIOR INFO

 

Seniors: if you have not signed the board for the senior shirt, please do so by the end of the day Wednesday, September 26. (W) – T. Ledden

 

COUNSELING INFO

 

The Counseling Department will host a Naviance help session in the Amphitheater during lunch on Wednesday 9/26. Any students who need help using the Naviance program for college are welcome to attend. (W) – B. Ottinger

 

This Friday, September 28th is the deadline to register for the Saturday, October 27th ACT. This is the last test date on a Saturday national testing day that many colleges will accept even though they should also accept the Tuesday, October 30th score that our seniors will take.  If you have not yet registered for a Saturday ACT, you will need to go to www.actstudent.org and create an account. You will need your ACT ID that is in the top middle of your state testing score report or you can email your counselor for that info.  (W) – K. Rowlan

 

I representative from the University of Chicago will meet with interested students during lunch on Wednesday the 26th in the Counseling Office. If interested, please plan to attend. (W) – A. Morris

Are you interested in attending NC State and would like to be considered for their Park Scholarships? Please visit the ORHS Counseling scholarship webpage for more information or visit park.ncsu.edu. You must submit your interest to your Counselor by September 28th for the application deadline of Oct. 15th. (9/7-9/26 WF) – A. Morris

 

The Latino College & Resource Fair will be Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 04:00 PM until 06:00 PM at Knoxville Central High School, 5321 Jacksboro Pike in Knoxville.  (9/26-9/27) – B. Ottinger
