Oak Ridge High School Daily Bulletin

STUDENT INFO

This is a reminder that the only parking lot that is available for student parking at Central Baptist Church is the lot closest to the Arena parking lot.  The upper lot is not available for student parking.  These cars will be towed at owner’s expense. (5/2-5/4) – T. Seals

Students taking AP exams: please see your AP teachers for the location of your exam. This information is also in the iNews and ORHS website.

Everyone needs a little help from their friends. That’s why Bronson Burdick and J. J. Valencia will be providing free NHS tutoring from 3:15 to 3:50 in the Counselling Center on Thursday. (5/2-5/3) – K. Senter

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the continent in WWII, we are leading educational tour to Europe during Spring Break 2019. Visit 4 countries as we trace the path of the allied forces from England to the D-Day beaches of France, on to the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, and finally into Germany and the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp. Join us on Thursday, May 3 at 7:00 PM in the ORHS Amphitheater for an interest meeting. Students that are already signed up do not need to attend, but please invite your friends. COUNSELING INFO

Attention Seniors, It’s time to complete your Graduation Survey in Naviance.  Please record your college application outcomes (accepted, denied, waitlisted, deferred). List the college you will be attending or other post-secondary plans. This information is private. Your identity will not be shared. (5/2-5/4) – B. Ottinger

Reminder to all students planning to take DE Spanish 4, DE French 4, DE Geology, DE Statistics, or DE Pre-Calculus through Roane State next year, you must have taken the ACT or SAT and met their required score to take the course for dual enrollment credit starting next fall. The last ACT we will offer this year is Saturday, June 9^th with a registration deadline of THIS Friday, May 4^th. If you qualify for fee waiver, you can see Mrs. Rowland in the Counseling office to get a waiver and it also covers the cost of the writing test.  You can also take a residual ACT at RSCC any time you schedule it but that score will not be sent to other colleges. CLUB & ORGANIZATION INFO

Attention future leaders. Will you be a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior next year? Are you interested in setting a positive example for leadership here at Oak Ridge? Then consider joining Student Council next year. Student Council is currently seeking applicants for the 2018-2019 school year Leadership Class. Interested applicants should see Mrs. Corey, Mrs. Homan, or Mrs. Haynes for an application. Applications are due soon, so don’t wait! (5/2-5/11 MWF) – A. Corey

Is altruism possible? Or are our selfless acts actually self-interested? Are these mutually exclusive? Join Philosophy Club after school on Friday in Mr. Pickering’s room (LC322) for a discussion on human motivation and intentionality. Everyone is welcome! (5/3-5/4) – A. Pickering

SENIOR INFO

Are you in need of volunteer hours?   Join us at the Oak Ridge Schools – City of Oak Ridge Wellness Fair on May 16th at the Civic Center!  The fair begins at noon and ends at 4:00pm.   You can earn volunteer hours by helping vendors set up, working the registration desk, etc.  You can start after school is dismissed on Wednesday, May 16th and work as long as you like!  If you are interested, please email CSH Coordinator Jen Laurendine at jllaurendine@ortn.edu.  (4/9-5/16 T/Th) – J. Seniors:  Each year, ORHS Student Council awards a $2000 one-time scholarship to a graduating senior who has been involved with leadership activities, either at school, in the community, or a combination of both.  If you are interested in applying for this scholarship, please see Mrs. Homan in CS227 for an application.  The due date for returning the applications is Wednesday, May 17th. Seniors:  Design the Convocation Cover for your class this year.  Submissions are due to Mrs. Bauman by Friday, May 4th.  Your work will not only be the cover for the 2018 Convocation Program, but will be used for other ORHS material next year.  Be Creative!  Illustrate your wildcat pride with a design that represents your high school, your class, and your memories.  items needed on the design are:

ATHLETICS THIS WEEK

FREE Sports Physical Clinic  THIS SUNDAY May 6 –  ORHS Wildcat Arena   –  1:00 – 3:00    Parents and athletes should complete the sports information and permission forms on line prior to this Sunday.  Here’s the link:   https://oakridgeathletics.com/athletic-training/ . Medical Evaluation forms will be completed on-site on the Sports Clinic Day.  All Student Athletes must have a sport physical dated after April 15, 2018 to be able to participate in any ’18 – ’19 ORS Athletic Program.
