Oak Ridge High School Daily Bulletin

STUDENT INFO

Congratulations to the winners in the Branching Out poetry contest. In the 9th and 10th grade category, first place is Maggie Froning, “Broken Wings,” $25; second place is Meghan Campbell, “I See the Hours Pass,” $15; third place is Miracle Jones, “The Demon,” $10. In the 11th and 12th grade category, first place is Rebekah Moran, “Mushrooms of Caramel,” $25; second place is Nathan Ferragut, “I Want to be Dumb,” $15; third place is Rebekah Moran, “A Hopeless Romantic,” $10. The following students also earned Honorable Mentions: Matthew Darring-York, “An Aberrations’ Record: Querido Diario”;  Jacob Ferragut, “The Living Journey of Life”; Olivia Milloway, “to my Sister”;  and Carson Mitchell, “The Light.” All winners and honorable mentions should see Ms. Sasser in CS336 to collect your prizes. Y-12 is hosting its annual “Introduce a Girl to Engineering” event on February 22nd, and all ORHS girls are welcome to attend.  This free field trip is a great opportunity for our young women to hear from and talk with women in the STEM fields.  There will be demonstrations and booths set-up for every STEM field imaginable.  We will depart that morning and return to school in time for 6th period.  If you would like to attend, please see your math or science teacher for a permission form.  All forms are due to Student Services by the end of school on Friday, February 9th.  There are a limited number of seats, so sign up quickly! How is your academic memoir going? Give it a stunning plot twist with free NHS tutoring from Ian Campbell and Samantha Sepulveda from 3:15 to 3:50 on Tuesday in the Counseling Center. (2/5-2/6) – K. Senter

Yearbookers are hard at work on the last few pages of the book.  The book will be complete and ready for printing by the end of February!  We just updated our page counts in the English hallway outside CS328.  Take another look, make sure you are featured in the yearbook, and take a form to fill out for our final pages.  We still have a few pages left to complete, and we want to feature YOU! What in carnation? Carnations will be sold from Thursday, February 8th to Tuesday, February 13th before school and during lunch. Get one for your sweetie pie! CLUB & ORGANIZATION INFO

Congratulations to the ORHS Ethics Bowl team for winning 3rd place at the Tennessee Regional Ethics Bowl last weekend! Team members are seniors Olivia Milloway, Sarah Roth, and Wilder Dodson, juniors Braden Gibson and Matthew Darring-Yerk, and sophomores Avigail Duke and Patricia Anguiano. Ethics Bowl is an activity of the Philosophy Club which meets each Friday after school in Mr. Pickering’s room (LC322). New members are always welcome to join our discussions! (2/6) – A. Pickering
