Oak Ridge High School Daily Bulletin

STUDENT INFO

Congratulations to the winners in the Branching Out poetry contest. In the 9th and 10th grade category, first place is Maggie Froning, “Broken Wings,” $25; second place is Meghan Campbell, “I See the Hours Pass,” $15; third place is Miracle Jones, “The Demon,” $10. In the 11th and 12th grade category, first place is Rebekah Moran, “Mushrooms of Caramel,” $25; second place is Nathan Ferragut, “I Want to be Dumb,” $15; third place is Rebekah Moran, “A Hopeless Romantic,” $10. The following students also earned Honorable Mentions: Matthew Darring-York, “An Aberrations’ Record: Querido Diario”;  Jacob Ferragut, “The Living Journey of Life”; Olivia Milloway, “to my Sister”;  and Carson Mitchell, “The Light.” All winners and honorable mentions should see Ms. Sasser in CS336 to collect your prizes. Students registered to take the AMC 12-A Math test on Wednesday, February 7th ,  should report to their test sites no later than 7:45 am. Lists of participates will be posted outside of the Amphitheatre and on the Math wing bulletin board. Test sights are:  Last names A – K  in LC-326. Last names L – Z in the Amphitheatre. Y-12 is hosting its annual “Introduce a Girl to Engineering” event on February 22nd, and all ORHS girls are welcome to attend.  This free field trip is a great opportunity for our young women to hear from and talk with women in the STEM fields.  There will be demonstrations and booths set-up for every STEM field imaginable.  We will depart that morning and return to school in time for 6th period.  If you would like to attend, please see your math or science teacher for a permission form.  All forms are due to Student Services by the end of school on Friday, February 9th.  There are a limited number of seats, so sign up quickly! There will be a meeting for those students who are enrolled on the summer trip to Spain and France on Thursday, February 8th at 6:30 in the Amphitheater.  Please bring two grey-scape signed copies of your passport and your folder.  There are two spots remaining, but time is running out!  If you are interested in traveling to Europe, eating Spanish and French food, learning to cook, watching a Flamenco show, or going to one of the favorite amusement parks in Europe–and potentially earning college credit while you do so–come to the meeting, or see Madame Bailey, Señor Gonzalez, Señora Ferguson, Mr. Pickering, Mr. Hickman or Ms. Toler for more information on how to enroll.  (2/5, 2/8) – L. National Honor Society will meet on Monday, February 5th at 3:15 in LC-327.  All members are expected to attend.  Please see Madame Bailey in LC-304 to explain conflicts. (2/1, 2/5) – L. Bailey

Science Olympiad members who plan on competing at the Regional Tournament on March 3 need to return their forms to Mrs. Foust by Wednesday this week.  Failure to do so may prevent the team from competing. (2/5) – K. Foust
