Oak Ridge High School Daily Bulletin

STUDENT INFO

Students and staff are reminded to NOT PARK on the striped area of the Turnpike parking lot. This area is used for band practice in the afternoons during school hours.  Students/staff who are parked in that area will be asked to move their cars. (Tu,Th) – M. Hughey

Seniors, are you stressing about the College Application Process? Not sure how to use Naviance? Should you apply via Common Application or directly to the college? How do you request a transcript? How do you request a letter of recommendation? All of these questions and more will be answered at SENIOR SEMINAR. Senior Seminars will take place for students during English classes on Thursday, September 7th. Follow up sessions for both students and parents will be held in the ORHS Auditorium on September 7th from 6 – 7:30 and on Sunday, September 10th from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. (T, Th – 9/7) – B. Ottinger

Free discarded library books, mostly realistic fiction, available to students and teachers.  Please come by the library by Friday, 8/18, to see if there is something you would like to bring home.  (8/17-8/18) – C. Milloway

Please be aware that yearbooks will only be at the $50 pricepoint until August 31, after which time, the price will go up to $60.  Get yours online at www.balfour.com now, or pick up a form in the main office or outside of Mrs. Byrd’s room (CS328).  Parents of seniors may also purchase salutations for the end of the yearbook through the website or by using the paper form.  All salutations are due by October 23.  (8/17-8/18) – R. CLUB & ORGANIZATION INFO

The Chess Club will be having it’s first meeting of the year this Thursday, August 17th at 3:15 in Mrs. Nelson’s room LC 224. (8/15-8/17) – T. Nelson

They’re BACK!  The National Honor Society is again offering their free tutoring services in all subjects every Tuesday and Thursday in the counseling center from 3:15-3:50.  Thursday’s tutors are Emily Brewer and Victoria Wilson.  (8/16-17) – L. Bailey

Do you love Science?  Do you love building cool things like mousetrap cars and helicopters?  If you answered yes to either of those questions, come to the first Science Olympiad meeting on Tuesday, August 22 at 3:15pm in Mrs. Foust’s room LC207. (8/17-8/18) – K. Foust

International Relations Club will be meeting today and every Thursday immediately after school in the Combined Studies Room, LC 326.  Food, Debates, and great conversations.  Let us hear your voice. See Mrs. Bauman in LC 318 if you have questions. (8/17) – B. Bauman

Juniors and Seniors: Admissions counselors from Duke University, Harvard University, Georgetown, U of Penn and Stanford will be in Knoxville Sunday night, October 1st to meet with prospective students. You must register at this link provided in order to attend.  http://exploringcollegeoptions.org/ As a reminder, that is the first weekend of fall break. ATHLETICS

STUDENTS –  How would you like to not have to wait in line for any home athletic event (football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, track, etc.).  Plus, you can save over $150!  You can purchase a Student Athletic pass for $55 and never have to buy another ticket again! (TSSAA playoff games excluded).  Come by the Main Office before or after school from Monday to Thursday to purchase your pass. PASSES WILL NOT BE SOLD ON FRIDAYS. (T, Th)

Conditioning for the 2018 ORHS Track and Field Team begins on Monday, September 11, at the Ben Martin Track at 3:30 PM. If you think that you may want to run, jump, or throw for ORHS, come out and get in track and field shape during the fall. You must have a current athletic physical on file with Terra Davenport, our trainer, before you may participate in any workouts. If you’re playing football, volleyball, girls’ soccer, cross country, or golf, you need to wait on track conditioning until your season is over with.
